Here is Why
Measure U will breathe new life into our Truckee schools – strong schools are the foundation of a strong community. For our kids, for our community, for Truckee’s future.
Why Now?
Truckee High’s old buildings need structural, technological and environmental
upgrades.
Athletic and play facilities are inadequate for league, student and community
sports. With no track, athletes train on Donner Pass Road or travel to Reno.
Vocational education, media and technology resources are crowded and outdated.
Elementary school traffic congestion causes safety hazards and delays.
Our schools are nearly full and enrollment is projected to increase in all
Truckee schools over the next 7 years!
What “U” Will Do!
Modern New Classroom Wing for THS with expansion area for future classrooms*
Better infrastructure for all students
Move 22% of students from 1985 portables into new classrooms.
Reinforce unsafe buildings to increase snow load capacity.
Implement “green” building strategies for improved energy
Vocational education and media
Build smart classrooms with high-speed WIFI for campus computer
use.
Rebuild the Career-Tech wing and expand Vocational Education to
teach practical skills, such as Carpentry, Construction, and Fire
Science.
Create a state-of-the-art library/media center.
New Athletic Complex for school programs, league events and our community
Build a modern stadium with grandstands, concession stands, restrooms,
scorer’s booth and sports storage – including handicap access.
Install high-quality synthetic turf for football, soccer and other
sports.
Build a regulation track and facility.
Improvements for Truckee Elementary School and Sierra Mountain (former
Middle School)
Provide safe, access to the school for children, parents and visitors
by improving circulation and parking.
Expand the hard court and synthetic turf playing areas.
Prepare Sierra Mountain Middle School to serve elementary students,
when Truckee and Glenshire elementary schools exceed capacity.
*Please note: due to the construction project plan, the
current District Office will be torn down to create space for the new
wing. For a period of time, the District Office will be housed on the
second floor of the new wing until new offices adjacent to Sierra Mountain
are built. The new District Offices are not part of this bond measure
and will be funded separately. Please refer to the school site renderings
for specific location information.

Ask questions. Get answers. Understand the power of "U".
The
Tahoe Truckee School District has great teachers, parents, students and
community support. These are all ingredients necessary to ensure an outstanding
education system. An ingredient that is missing is quality facilities for
several of the Truckee schools. Truckee High School and Truckee Elementary
School are in dire need of upgrading and updating. We owe it to the students
and staff to provide up-to-date, safe and comfortable facilities. Measure
U will accomplish this.
